Nancy was born in Houston, Texas, to the late Herbert Cunningham and Helen Weatherhead Cunningham. She grew up in Comanche, Texas. Nancy graduated from Comanche High School in 1956, and then went into the U.S. Army where she was a dental lab technician. While in the Army, she met Pete Wasson, and they were married on July 13, 1957, at Walter Reed Medical Center Chapel. As a proud military family they lived in Washington, D.C., Fayetteville N.C., Germany, Fort Rucker, Ala. Fort Hood, Texas, and settled in Gatesville, Texas, in 1973. Nancy worked in the probation office in Coryell County and attended Central Texas College at night to achieve her Bachelor's Degree. She retired from Coryell County Adult Probation Office as a probation officer.
Nancy enjoyed counted cross stitch early in life and this turned into a love of sewing. She became an avid quilter and was a member of the Wildflower Quilt Guild in Temple. She also quilted with a special group of friends in a quilting bee in Temple. Nancy made and donated over a hundred lap quilts to the wounded warriors at Fort Hood. Nancy was a devoted wife and mother. She was so proud of her two grandsons and attended every function from T-Ball to awards banquets to basketball, but drew the line at track. Nancy loved animals, especially their cat, Mouse, and enjoyed traveling with her husband.
