Ethel Jane Shimer Boltz, age 112 years, a resident of Beverly, WV departed this life Friday morning, April 1, 2016 at the home of her son and daughter in law, Donald and Polly Boltz, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice. She was born Wednesday, December 2, 1903 at Calhoun County, WV on her father's farm, a daughter of the late Sherman S. and Mary Catherine Hays Shimer. She was married to Emmanuel Davilla "Bill" Boltz, who preceded her in death during 1959. Surviving are two sons, James Robert Boltz and wife Tae of Suisun City, CA, Donald Wayne Boltz, Sr. and wife Polly Mae of Beverly; one sister, Evelyn "Peg" Bowman of Fairmont; seventeen grandchildren, Jack Stalnaker and wife Sue, Dwayne Stalnaker and wife Sherry, David Stalnaker and wife Janet, Donzel Stalnaker, Mary Taylor and husband Steve, Donald Boltz, Jr. and wife Barbara, Mary "Cathy" Boltz, Jim Stalnaker, Bernard Stalnaker, Delores Stalnaker Bragg, Patricia Stalnaker, Wanda Stalnaker, Steve Stalnaker, Roger Stalnaker, Jannet Boltz Phares and husband Dick, Steve Boltz and wife Margaret, Gail Boltz; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are one son, Harland Guy Stalnaker; five brothers, Howard, Harvey, Ernest, James, and Earl Shimer and two sisters, Myrtle Villers and Minnie Davis.

She attended the schools of Calhoun County and was a homemaker. She was a lady of many talents. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. She made dresses for the girls at the church she attended. She was a protestant by faith and believed in God very strongly and enjoyed going to church. Her biggest priority was to serve God. Another talent which she shared at church was music, having played the organ, piano and accordion. Ethel always believed in dressing holy and acting that way. She kept her hair long, saying that was a woman's glory and believed a woman should always wear a dress. She was a good cook and could make pies that would melt in your mouth. Ethel loved the outdoors and working in her garden. She raised almost everything and canned it. Being raised on a farm, she learned to milk cows, put up hay with her son and the boys and raising their own beef and pork. She believed in eating the right foods, taking care of her body by not abusing it with alcohol and drugs and staying strong emotionally and physically has helped Ethel live a long life to the age of 112, which made her the oldest living person in WV, tenth oldest in America, and thirty-eighth oldest in the world. She has been touched by an angel for being the loving and sweet person she was.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Monday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 1 PM. The Rev. Jack Howell and Pastor Bryan Headley will officiate and interment will follow at the Hazelwood Cemetery at Beverly, WV.
