Most likely died of smallpox at the contagious disease hospital on Arsenal/Quarantine Island or one of the St. Louis Hospitals and was buried on Arsenal Island. After a flood in 1876 washed away all headboards and means of identification, was one of 470 soldiers reinterred at Jefferson Barracks as an Unknown Soldier.
