Gladys L. "Lou" Hess Horton, An Angel came into our mother's room today we did not see him, but we knew he was there. He came to take her to her eternal home. Gladys L. (Lou) Hess Horton, age 91, of the Mill Creek section of Raven, Virginia passed away Thursday evening, March 7, 2013 at her home following an extended illness.

She was born in Russell County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Luther and Bertha Ray Hess, both Russell County, Virginia natives. Ms. Horton attended Swords Creek Block Church and Horton Ridge Church of God. She lived all her life in the Raven area. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1977, Winfred Horton; 7 sisters, Dixie Dye, Thelma George, Mary Plaster, Ola Taylor, Helen Jones, Charlotte Hess and one stillborn sister; five brothers, Berkely, Harvey, Harold, Larry and Arch Hess.

She is survived by:

Aaron Horton, Alexis Horton, Taylor Messick, Gage Hylton, Corey Whited and Gavin Whited

Funeral services for Gladys L. (Lou) Hess Horton will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Dennis White and Pastor Scott Price officiating. Interment will follow at Hess Family Cemetery on Horton Ridge near Raven, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Randall Hess, Shaun Horton, John Lester, Jeff Hylton, Jonathan Miller, and Freddie Dye.
