Evelyn M. (Schroeder) DeVries, 91, of Waverly, Iowa and formerly from Fredericksburg passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

Evelyn was born on May 20, 1921, the daughter of Louis Fred and Elsie Marie (Benter) Boie in rural Fayette County, Iowa. At the age of 5, Evelyn moved with her parents to South Dakota. She attended school in South Dakota. In the fall of 1944, they moved back to Fayette County. On February 10, 1946, she was united in marriage to Earl W. Schroeder at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Richfield, rural Sumner, Iowa.

The couple moved to a farm east of Fredericksburg where Evelyn would later obtain her GED. She then attended Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, where she became a LPN Nurse, graduating on April 7, 1972. Later that year the couple moved to Waverly where Evelyn began working at the hospital in Waverly before going to work at the Allison Care Center. She retired from the care center in 1991. Earl passed away in September of 1992.

On July 3, 2000, she was united in marriage to George H. DeVries at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly and the couple made their home in Waverly.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Evelyn enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting, playing cards, sewing, gardening and attending functions at the Waverly Senior Center. She most especially enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren.

Survivors are her two daughters, Regina DeVries of Allison, Iowa and Brenda (Jeffrey) Weston of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; son, Wayne (Linda) Schroeder of Hawkeye, Iowa; step-son, Donald (Linda) DeVries of Plainfield, Iowa; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Donal Boie of Hawkeye, Iowa, Elmer (Aletha) Boie of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Charles (Opal) Boie of Groveland, California and Glen (Sally) Boie of Hawkeye, Iowa.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Earl W. Schroeder and George H. DeVries; son, Alvin Schroeder; and by a son-in-law, Lavern G. DeVries.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Curt Schneider officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Richfield, rural Sumner. Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
