He was born March 28, 1935, in Spotsylvania to the late Roosevelt and Martha Dawson. He had retired from GM Powertrain and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; children Sheila D. Brown (Robert) of Spotsylvania, Royce A. Dawson (Welford) of Caroline County and Roy Marvin Dawson of Richmond; grandchildren Tracey, Rico, Victoria, Chazz and Sidney; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Willie Dawson (Inez) of Woodford; two sisters, Ruth Mercer of Spotsylvania and Delores Dawson of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; brother-in-law Leonard White (Dorothy); two sisters-in-law, Alma Tibbs and Patsy Smith (Charles); good friends Robert Garner and Willard Beasley; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, at Beulah Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
