BURLINGTON - Mr. P.N. Thompson Jr., 91, of 3215 North N.C. 62, Burlington died at his residence on Friday, April 8, 2011.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of over 70 years to Pauline DeBruler Thompson, who survives, and the son of Paisley Nelson Thompson Sr. and Eula McAdams Thompson, both deceased.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the battles in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
Mr. Thompson retired from Burlington Times-News. He was founder and owner of P. N. Thompson Printing Company. For many years, he was editor and publisher of the United Church of Christ Southern Conference News. P.N. was a member of Union Ridge Church where he served as a deacon, a choir member and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Men's Fellowship, chairman of the Official Board of the church and held many offices during his lifetime within the church. He was also past president of the Pleasant Grove Civitan Club.
In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include three sons, Tommy Thompson and wife Barbara of Roaring Gap, the Rev. Donnie Thompson and wife Faye of Sanford, and Dean Thompson and wife Janet of Roswell, Ga.; six grandchildren, Richard Thompson, Gregory Thompson, Will Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson, Paul Thompson and Kim Hudgins; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Thompson Crawford.
The funeral service will be conducted at Union Ridge Church on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Dan Ficklin and the Rev. James L. Rosser. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Union Ridge Church Activities Building Fund, 115 Altamahaw Union Ridge Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217-7501.
