Harriet A. "Ann" VanHorn, 96, of Townsend, DE passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.


Born on September 30, 1916 in Massey, MD, she was the daughter of the late John O. and Mary Jane (Maslin) Shelton.


Mrs. VanHorn worked for the Townsend Elementary School, where she dedicated 38 years as cafeteria manager. She was a life member of the Townsend Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.


Mrs. VanHorn was a loving mother and grandmother and her family was most important to her. She especially loved the beach. Her grandsons have many fond memories of spending summers and weekends with her at the beach.


In addition to her parents, Mrs. VanHorn was preceded in death by her husband, Malvin E. VanHorn, Sr.; son, Malvin, Jr.; grandson, Malvin III; sister, Mary Dill and three brothers.


Mrs. VanHorn leaves many wonderful and fond memories to her daughter-in-law, Virginia VanHorn; two grandsons, Michael (Lisa) and Mark (Laurie) VanHorn; a grand-daughter-in-law, Lisa Phillips VanHorn; 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held noon on Friday, February 22 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown, where friends may visit with her family two hours prior.


Interment will follow in Townsend Cemetery.
