Mr. Culbreth C. "Cub" Barefoot, age 87, Founder, Owner and President of C.C. Barefoot and Company, Inc. died Friday at his home.


Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Capps and Dr. James L. Evans. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Benson.


Mr. Barefoot was born in Johnston County on June 5, 1918, to the late Oliver H. and Thenie Kinsey Barefoot. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kilty J. Barefoot; daughter, Brenda B. Sease; son, Culbreth C. Barefoot, Jr.; grandson, Philip B. Smith; brothers, Noah Barefoot and Ayden Barefoot; sister, Ruth Tart; and brother-in-law, Charlie Davis.


Mr. Barefoot was a memberof Trinity Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Barefoot were very supportive of the following institutions, Meredith College, Campbell University, Duke Medical Center, Trinity Baptist Church and various other organizations. Mr. Barefoot was very instrumental in the growth of the sweet potato industry. He served on the N. C. Sweet Potato Commission and the National Sweet Potato Commission, serving as President of both organizations.


Survivors are daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara B. and Don Lee ofArapahoe, Betty Lou B. Johnson of Raleigh, Doris B. Bunn of Cary, and Beverly B. and Harold Smith of Bahama; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.


Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home, 396 Old Hwy. 96, Benson, NC.


Flowers are welcomed, however memorials may be made to C.U.R.E.D., Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, Office of Development and Communications, DUMC-3828, Durham, NC 27710.
