DEATHS AND FUNERALS.
FRANCIS JEFFERSON FEINDT.
Francis Jefferson Feindt, a veteran of the Civil War, and an old resident of this place, died at his home on Market street shortly after noon Wednesday, after an illness of nine days with intestinal catarrh. Deceased was a son of the late F. G. Feindt and his wife Maria Price, and was born at Berrysburg on the 5th day of April, 1843. The family came to this place when Francis was quite young and when he arrived at the proper age secured employment at the mines, where, when a driver boy, his mule ran away and his feet becoming entangled in the traces he was dragged a considerable distance over rocks and rough ground receiving injuries about the head and body which nearly cost him his life.
On September 16th, 1861, he offered his services to his country in the great straggle with the Southern Confederacy, and was enlisted in Co. B, Ninth Pa. Cavalry, with which he served until the expiration of his enlistment, Dec. 24, 1864, when he was honorably discharged. He re-enlisted in the 103rd Reg., Pa. Vol., March 14th, 1865, and served until hostilities ceased, when he returned to this place where he has since resided.
He married Elizabeth D., daughter of the late Daniel Miller of this place, Aug. 18, 1867, which marriage was without issue. Eighteen years ago he was stricken with paralysis which rendered him nearly entirely helpless, but for all these years he was a patient, uncomplaining sufferer. Even in his last illness, which undoubtedly was attended with great suffering, he was patient to the last.
His wife, brother Henry Feindt, and sisters Mrs. G. W. Hawk and Mrs. G. W. Bitterman, all of this place, survive to mourn his loss.
The funeral will be held from his late home at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The services will be conducted by Rev. C. M. Nicholas, pastor of Zion Lutheran church, of which deceased has been a member for many years, having united during the pastorate of Rev. Daniel Kloss. Interment will be made on the family plot in Odd Fellows' cemetery, and will be in charge of Wiconisco Lodge, No. 533, 1. 0, 0. F. of this place, of which deceased also was a member.
