Layne was born March 12, 1957 in Rose, Kansas, the son of Edward Frank and Thelma Whelmina (Eagle) Offenbacker.
He was united in marriage to Elsie Rollings. She survives of the home.
Layne was a self-employed welder.
Along with his wife, Elsie, he is survived by his mother, Thelma Offenbacker of Chanute; three daughters, Angela Marie Offenbacker, Allison Michell Hollenbeck, and Polly Lynn Offenbacker, all of Chanute; three sons, Layne Mark Offenbacker II, Walt Lee Offenbacker and Kim James Offenbacker, all of Independence; three grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Sue Matlock of Buffalo; and a niece and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father.
