Henry Fleming, native of Vermont, was a resident of Decorah, Iowa, when he enlisted Sept. 6, 1861 at the age of 18 years. Mustered in Co L 4th Iowa Cavalry Nov. 25, 1861. Wounded April 8, 1863, at St. Francis River, Arkansas. Re-enlisted and re-mustered Sept. 12, 1863. Promoted Fifth Sergeant Feb. 26, 1865. Mustered out Aug. 8, 1865, Atlanta, Georgia.
Fleming filed for his pension May 6, 1867. App #125,434 and Cert #166,255. His wife filed for widow's pension in 1905. App #835,845 and Cert #609,642.
