Nancy's birth and death information was submitted by findagrave member GAIL. Gail gives her source for this information as, "A CRAMER KING HISTORY," By O.L. Flanigam, R.L. Hartinger, & M.C. Emmanuel.

I have not been able to determine for certain where Nancy is buried. She is probably buried in the Agency Cemetery. However, my husband and I have not been able to find a gravestone for her, and the WPA does not show a stone for her in their readings, so I have no proof of this.

Even though I have no other documentation on Nancy's death date and her burial place is unknown, I created a memorial for her, as I have noticed on the family charts on various sites that there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about who Nancy's children were. David and Nancy Lanning had two children, Hugh and Martha.

Nancy married David Lanning on September 4, 1850, in Wapello County, Iowa. They were shown in the October 1, 1850, Census for Ripley, Brown County, Illinois with two children: Sarah, age 4, and David C., age 3. These children would have been David's with his first wife Amelia O'Neal Lanning. Oddly enough, Nancy Lanning is also shown in the September 7, 1850, census for Wapello County, Iowa, living with her parents, Hugh & Martha Connelly.

David and Nancy had two children, Hugh and Martha, and in the 1856 Census for Wapello County, David and Nancy were living in Agency, Iowa, with three children: Sarah A., age 3; Hugh, age 3; and Marth, with no age shown. Sarah's age would have actually been 10 by then, not 3. According to her age at death on her gravestone, Martha was born May 30, 1854, so depending on the date the census was done, she would have been 1 or 2.

Nancy's husband, David, was remarried on December 3, 1862, in Wapello County, Iowa, to Harriet (Creswell) Walling, and they had three children together: Ella E., James, and William. I have noticed that some researchers believe these children were Nancy's, but Harriet was their mother. They were all born after David married Harriet in 1862, and Hattie Creswell is listed as William and Ella's mother in their marriage records.

Ella is shown in the 1880 Wapello County Census, at the age of 17, living with Nancy's brother John Connelly and his family, and she is shown on that census as his niece. I do not know why she is shown that way, and I'm sure this has contributed to the misunderstanding about Ella being Nancy's daughter. Young girls of this age often lived with families and worked in the household. Even though David Lanning had remarried and had Ella by his third wife, I imagine John and Julia Connelly felt like she was a niece to them.

David remarried twice more after Harriet's death, but I do not believe he had any more children with these wives. He was married to L.C. Royce on December 29, 1880, and to Sarah Wertz on July 15, 1886. Both of these marriages were also in Wapello County, Iowa.
