James Clifton
Bolding, 72, died of cancer at his home near Bucyrus, Missouri on August 4, 2012. He was a fifth generation Texan, a descendant of pioneers in Carson and Williamson Counties, Texas.
Born in Amarillo, Texas, Jim graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas in 1958, then earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Rice Institute in 1963. He joined Monsanto Chemical, first as a chemical engineer and later, upon completion of his J.D. at South Texas College of Law, as a patent attorney.
Growing up in Dallas, Jim tinkered with crystal sets and early transistors, and worked for a small custom manufacturing firm during high school. Throughout his life he enjoyed nature and travel, touring much of Texas and exploring Mexico by train when his children were small. While representing Monsanto, his expertise in licensing took him to Taiwan, Japan, China, Russia and eastern European countries. In later years, he enjoyed vacation cruises to Scandinavia, South America and the Caribbean.
After his retirement in 1995, Jim relocated to Texas County, Missouri, where he had a small cattle operation. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Houston, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife Linda; his daughter Katherine Bolding of Houston, Texas; his son Frank Bolding of Austin, Texas; a sister Muriel Lem of McMahan, Texas; and a brother Richard Bolding of Georgetown, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
