He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the son of the late Elihu and Virgie Honaker Arms. He was a U. S. Army Vietnam War Veteran. He was a retired coal miner with Island Creek Coal Corporation. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Tommy was a big Richlands High School sports follower.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Ann Hylton; and five brothers, Junior Arms, Tivis Arms, Darris Arms, Dallas Arms, and Curtis Arms.

Funeral services for Tommy Armes will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Rick Blevins officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 pm- 9 pm Thursday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
