Modell was born in Boone County, Arkansas on October 3, 1923 to Jewell Stephen Potts, Sr and Lois Myrtle VanAtten Potts. She and her family moved to Florida in 1935, residing in the Cocoa area. She graduated from Cocoa High School in 1944, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
Following her marriage on May 11, 1947 to Raymond Joseph Sharp, Jr., she lived a long and fruitful life as a homemaker, loving mother, and pastor's wife. Modell had a life-long passion for gardening and horticulture which occupied much of her retirement. She was a member of the Groveland Garden Club, Mims Jacaronda Garden Club, Wesleyan Service Guild, Women's Society of Christian Service, United Methodist Women and was a teacher in the Lauback Literacy Program.
Modell is survived by her husband, Rev. R. J. Sharp of Port St. John, Florida, her son, Raymond, and two daughters, Kris and Kimberly. She was preceded in death by a third daughter, Kathleen. Her descendents also include four grandsons, one granddaughter, one great grandson, and two great granddaughters.
Modell was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Their families include numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Modell will be held at First United Methodist Church of Cocoa on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10:30 am. At her request, graveside interment service will be private, for family only, at Brevard Memorial Park.
