MEADOWS, Roy Lanier, 76, of North Edwards, passed away on March 12, 2005, in Bakersfield, Calif. He was born September 3, 1928, in Earlhurst, Va., to James and Ottie Meadows, who preceded him in death, as did sisters Madeline Meadows and Ruth Rentfro and brother Bill Meadows. Also preceding him in death were his first wife of 35 years, Ann I. Meadows, and his son, John. Roy is survived by his wife of 15 years, Alice Lorraine Meadows, his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Vicki Meadows, his son James Meadows, daughter-in-law Ruth Meadows, former daughter-in-law Terri Parnell, grandchildren Jennifer Meadows, Christopher Meadows, Allison Meadows, Jonathan Meadows, and Geoffrey Meadows, step-son Frank Fabianich, step-daughter Linda Sadler, and many nieces and nephews. Surviving siblings are Josephine Tincher, James Meadows, Helen Kotzum, Margaret Forrester, and Anne May. Roy enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946, after turning 18 and transferred to the U.S. Air Force in 1949. He was stationed at bases in Washington D.C. and Massachusetts, and also had tours of duty in Japan and France. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant with various medals and honors after 20 years active service in 1966, then spent 18 more years as a civilian working for the Dept. of the Air Force at Edwards AFB. His career expertise was in aircraft instrumentation calibration and repair. Roy loved airplanes his whole life – working on them, watching them, and reading about them. His reputation for integrity and sincerity carried over into his personal life as well as his career. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who left us all with many happy memories. Special thanks from the family goes to the wonderful folks at Hearthstone and The Samaritans for their loving care of Roy following his brain surgery in 2002. While he no longer knew us, he did know we all loved him and he was in a safe and happy place. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2005, at Stickel Mortuary in Mojave, Calif., with burial following at the Mojave Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County to help others in memory of Roy.
