He married Margarete Pfiester on January 10th, 1941 in Fredericksburg, later they moved to San Antonio.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, piloted landing crafts off the USS Haskell, made many landings on the Pacific Islands during his tour of duty.
After the war he worked 39 years at Southern Pacific Railroad Co. in San Antonio. He and Margarete his wife of 72 years, moved back to Fredericksburg, where they have lived for 25 years.
He loved, hunting & fishing, and shot his last buck at the age of 91 years.
He is survived by his wife, Margarete Pfiester Franz of Fredericksburg.
By his son, Richard L. Franz of Helena, Montana, and a daughter and spouse, Jackie & David St. Clair of Coppell, Texas, grandchildren, Bryan Franz, Garrett & spouse Tracy Franz, David and Todd St. Clair, great grandchildren, Cormac & Norah Franz.
