DUMAS - (Special) - David P. Kirkland, 50, was found dead about 8:30 a.m. Sunday in a house on the Horace Helton farm, 22 miles southwest of Dumas. Death was ruled by crabon [sic] monoxide poisoning by Justice of Peace R. E. Sims.

Sims said the time of death was about 8 a.m. Sunday. Kirkland was alone in the house at the time. The body was discovered by one of Helton's Sons. A heater and cook stove were both burning when the body was found.

Kirkland's wife and daughter were visiting out-of-state at the time of death. He was employed by Helton and lived in the small house on the farm.

Survivors include his wife, Floy; four daughters, Billie Jean Arrington, Nila Kirkland and Carla Jean Kirkland, all of Dumas and Georgia Etta Burdick of Carnegie, Oklahoma; three sons, David Earl of Sweetwater; Douglas Paul of Dumas; and Bobby Joe of Dalhart; and his mother, Mrs. Maude Kirkland of Dumas.

Funeral services are pending with the Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Dumas.

DUMAS - (Special) - Funeral services for David P. Kirkland, 50, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Boxwell Brothers Chapel of Dumas with Dr. Cecil T. Goff, pastor of the Birst [sic] Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Dumas Cemetery under the direction of the Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Dumas. He was found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning Sunday in a farm house on the farm of Horace Helton about 22 miles southwester of Dumas.
