Mr. Duncan died Jan. 4, 2004, at University Hospital in Cleveland.
Born June 6, 1949, in Cleveland, he lived in Mentor before moving to Willoughby 15 years ago.
He was a Mentor High School graduate, member of the F.O.P., and Duncan's Demolishers. He was a caterer and received his bachelor of science degree in education from Bowling Green State University in 1972. Mr. Duncan was a local hockey referee. He loved the sport of hockey, Bowling Green State University, Browns, Chases Bar in Mentor, his grandchildren, and friends. He hated the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kent State University. His nickname was "Dunco from Bunco."
Mr. Duncan was a retired sergeant for the Mentor Police Department for more than 23 years, as well as member of the Ohio National Guard. He began his career with the Mentor Police Department June 18, 1979. He was an active member of the Ohio National Guard for 21 years, retiring in 1992. He was also a member of the Mentor S.W.A.T. team for 14 years, a field training officer for 14 years beginning in 1980, an evidence technician for eight years, and one of the founding members of the Mentor Police Athletic Association.
Survivors are his daughters, Charissa (David) Bly of Willowick and Ariann (Kevin) Richner of Painesville; grandchildren, Kailee Bly and Austin Richner; father, Alexander "Sandy" Duncan of Mentor; brothers, Scott (Marilyn) Duncan of Nellysford, Va., Gerry (Julie Voll) Duncan of Foster City, Calif., and Jim (Pam) Duncan of Malibu, Calif.; and niece, Elizabeth "Libby" Duncan. He also leaves his dog, Slapshot; cat, Wheezer; and many, many friends.
His mother, Janice Cobb; and step-mother, Margaret Duncan, are deceased.
