Erik Scott McCrae, husband of former Butte resident Heather Smyth McCrae, was killed June 4 while serving with the Army in Iraq.

He was born Nov. 1, 1978, in La Grande, Ore., and graduated from Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., in 2000. In the fall of 2000, Erik joined the Oregon National Guard as a cavalry scout with E/82 Cavalry Troop in Woodburn.
