According to family member Nancy McEwen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, this is George Hill McCurdy, born 9/22/1832 in Ligonier, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania to Charles & Margaret McCracken McCurdy. He married Amanda V. Hayes in 1856 in Bexar County Texas; they had at least seven children. George was a Baptist preacher and did missionary work, being gone from home sometimes for weeks. in December of 1869, returning home from one such trip, he went into town to get supplies. He stopped under a shade tree to eat his lunch and was found sometime later, shot through the head. His death certificate called it murder but his wife felt it was an accident as nothing was disturbed. His wife, Amanda, is shown on the 1870 Census living in Lodi, Wilson, Texas but in later years she is shown as a widow living in San Antonio Texas.
