James Ephram Whitehead was born in Georgia in 1878, and was one of five children born to Beuna Vista Elliot and John Newton Whitehead. His mother died in 1897, his father remarried and eventually moved to Chattanooga, Tenn. and opened a general store on Main St. James served in the military during the Spanish American War, 1898. James moved to Texas where he met Lula Rook Jarnigan. They married and had 6 children, Beuna Vista and Lola born in Arkansas; Lonnie and Thomas born in Fort Worth; Augusta born in San Antonio, TX; and Jewell born in Fort Worth. James worked as a news agent for the railroad until his death in Fort Worth, Texas in 1931 due to complications of pneumonia. To look at his picture, you are looking at his son, Thomas.
