World War 2 veteran - thank you
Tom M. Thompson, 91, of rural La Porte City, died Saturday evening at his home.
He was born October 18, 1921 in Clarion the son of Severien and Rachael Gibbs Thompson. He married Elizabeth Cotter on June 3, 1947 in Davenport. She preceded him in death on October 3, 1999.
Tom served in the U.S. Marines Corps during WW 11 in the Pacific Theater.
He worked at Rath Packing Company for 19 years and farmed up until his death. His heart belonged to agriculture in the Washburn area. "Thank God, I'm a farmer," he would say. He was a flying farmer and also loved ballroom dancing, and of course the penny slots at the casino.
He is survived by, Barbara (Tom) Rice of Waterloo, Bart (Lynda) Thompson of La Porte City, Bret (Holly) Thompson of Columbus, NE, Linda Cocchi of Huntington Beach, CA, Ron Thompson of Sand Creek, WI,; a brother, Ron (Helen) Thompson of Phoenix, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Thompson.
A family directed memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, Mar 8, at St Paul's Presbyterian Church in Washburn. Friends may call for an hour before services.
