Funeral services celebrating the life of Bertie Coleman Mitchell will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon., in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Pineville, with the Reverends Nick Taylor and Eddie Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Pollock cemetery. Friends may call at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Pineville from 1 o'clock in the afternoon until the time of Mrs. Mitchell's service.

Musical sections "Our Father" and "How Great Thor Art" will be presented by Father Keith Ishmael. Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Mitchell's grandsons and great-grandsons.

Mrs. Mitchell, age 85 years, passed from this life on Monday, July 16, 2007, at Rapides Regional Medical Center.

A native and life-long resident of Pollock, Mrs. Mitchell was born to the union of James Wesley Coleman and Maggie Price Coleman on July 10, 1922. She was a member of Pollock First Baptist church and retired as supervisor at Pinecrest Developmental Center. Mrs. Mitchell loved her hometown of Pollock and served as the matriarch of a family of public servants to the Town of Pollock.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie H. Mitchell; parents, James and Maggie Coleman; brothers, J.W. Coleman, Jack Coleman, and James Slaughter; and sons-in-law, David Parsons and Eugene Mayeaux.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Charles "Booger" Mitchell, Jr. and wife, Kay of Georgetown, and Richard "Tinker" Mitchell and wife, Vonda of Pollock; her daughters, Faye Mitchell Mayeaux of Pollock; Margaret Mitchell Beeson and husband Robert of Pollock; Linda Mitchell Broussard and husband, Bill of Broussard; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grand children.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Mitchell's name to the Town of Pollock Beautification Fund, P.O. Box 189, Pollock, Louisiana, 71467; or to Pollock Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 576, Pollock, Louisiana, 71467; or to Pollock First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 309, Pollock, Louisiana, 71467.
