Joseph E. Church, 92, died Saturday, March 2, 2013 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Virginia (Wolf) Church, who died February 18, 2003. Born July 24, 1920, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late C. Edward and Grace (Whitmore) Church. Joseph was a founder and part owner of the former U.S. Truck Cranes, Inc., Thomasville. He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church where he was a longtime usher. He attended Hofstra University and was a graduate of New York University. Joseph obtained his C.P.A. from the state of New York in 1946. He had volunteered at the Historical Society of York County (now the York County Heritage Trust) and the Visitors Center of York. Joseph is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Eck Dillman of York; two sons, Gary E. Church and Peter J. Church, both of York; three grandsons, Brian J. Eck, Kevin J. Eck, and Bradley J. Church, all of York; a great-grandson, Riley J. Eck; a great-granddaughter, Rorey H. V. Eck; and a brother, Robert W. Church of Elgin, IL. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard D. Church who died in 1956. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 311 Haines Road, York, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Gregory Seckman officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , 924N Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403; or to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2405 Park Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110; or to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 311 Haines Road, York, PA 17402.
