10th Pennsylvania Governor. He served as Governor of Pennsylvania from 1845 to 1848. Substitute candidate for governor in 1845 after the death of Democratic candidate Henry A. Muhlenberg. Was elected to a second term in 1847, but forced to resign on July 9, 1848 after contracting tuberculosis. He died 11 days later.
