William August ‘Buddy’ Kunz

TRINITY — William August “Buddy” Kunz was born on July 30, 1924, in Galveston, Texas. Buddy passed away on August 17, 2009, in Trinity, Texas at his residence with his family and friends at his side.

Buddy proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. Buddy had a love for the great open water in the Gulf of Mexico and he was a shrimper for many years. He resided in Santa Fe, Texas was employed by Local Union out of Texas City as a Boilermaker Black Smith and retired after more than 25 years in 1962 then he moved to Sheridan, Texas. He was a member of VFW Post 5400 of Hitchcock, Texas. Buddy moved to Trinity, Texas to spend time with his family and be close to the water once again.

Buddy is preceded in death of his wife and mother of his children Julia Schweim Kunz in 1981; great-grandchildren; Mandy Kunz, Alyssa Rodriguez, Regan Rodriguez; brother; Johnny Kunz; sister; Lurline Landrum and his parents; William Joseph and Albina Kunz.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 26 years Mamie Irene Kunz; children Darline Kimberly, Shirley Rodriguez, Janice Burleson and husband James, John Eric Kunz, and Charles Lynn Kunz and wife Terrie; grandchildren Denny Kimberly, David Rodriguez, Marc Rodriguez and wife Teresa, Stefan Rodriguez and wife Nancy, Darrell Burleson and wife Cindi, Duane Burleson and wife Courtney, Julia Kunz and Aaron Kunz; five great-grandchildren; brother Jerome Kunz; sister Shirley Rooks and many other relatives and special friends also survive.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Thee Hospice; P. O. Box 6548; Huntsville, TX 77342.

Funeral service will be held on August 20, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Waller-Thornton Funeral Home with the Rev. Horace Fletcher officiating. Graveside service will be in Santa Fe, Texas at Alta Loma Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. with Military Honors being presented by Post 5400. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Waller-Thornton Funeral Home.
