Jay L. "Jake" Maurice Sr., 79, of Mt. Holly Springs passed away Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Mt. Rock to the late John E. and Edythe E. Hippensteel Maurice.
Jake was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict and received the Occupation, Good Conduct, and National Defense service medals.
He retired from Ahlstrom Manufacturing and formerly worked for Garland Fuel Oil, Carlisle. He was a life member of Carlisle Moose Lodge 761 and a member of Mt. Holly Springs VFW Post 7343 and Mt. Holly Springs American Legion 674. Jake liked tinkering with his lawn mowers, and watching baseball and football, especially the Phillies and Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle C. Warner Maurice; two sons, Jay L. "Jake" Maurice Jr. and wife Barbara of Etters and Duane D. Maurice of Mt. Holly Springs; a daughter, Edie M. Weibley and husband Stan of Carlisle; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Maurice of Carlisle; and two sisters, Janet Roberts and Peg Olivera, both of Mt. Holly Springs.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ike, Jim, and Dude Maurice; and a sister, Genevieve "Sis" Mouers.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church, 202 W. Butler St., Mt. Holly Springs, with the Rev. Edward Alwine officiating.
There will be a viewing Thursday evening at Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, with military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
