Claire (Bovard) Thomas, 91, widow of George Petherick Thomas, of Jefferson Green, Waynesboro, died on Monday, May 7, 2012, at the Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville. She was born on July 18, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late George Milton and Margaret (Warren) Bovard. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Thomas was owner of Bovard's Jewelers, the family business founded in 1859 by her great- grandfather, Milton Bovard. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Isabel Thomas. Family members include two sons, George P. Thomas Jr. of Ambler, Pennsylvania, and Stephen B. Thomas and his wife, Dianne, of Waynesboro; two sisters, Isabel Fancourt of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Mary Louise Barnes of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren, Amanda Thomas Kaeser and husband, Kyle Kaeser and Stephen B. Thomas Jr. A memorial service will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro by the Reverend Dr. Glen Holman. Burial will be held at the Church of the Messiah Cemetery in Gwynned, Pennsylvania. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
