Chico Record, Friday Morning, May 21, 1943, pg 8 col 2: Last Rites Held for J.L. Hughes. Funeral services were held at the Black and Johnson chapel yesterday for Julius Leslie Hughes, who died at the home of his sister here Monday.

Rev. Adolph Kurkowski of the Grace Baptist Church officiated at the services. Roy Jeffries sang to song, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Lillian Cook.

Burial was in the family plot at Chico cemetery. Casket bearers were Rex and Elmore Maynard, Claude Bailey and James W. Conley.
