Martin was born about 1790; the son of William Holmes & unknown mother at this time. He married Elizabeth Young about 1812 in Floyd County, Indiana.

Together they had 12 children; 8 known names:

Jacob Holmes
Rebecca Holmes McDonald Wilson
Mahala Holmes Rush
John Quincy Holmes
Hardin Holmes
Sally Ann Holmes Cooper
Polly Holmes Harrison
William Holmes

Martin served in the War of 1812 as a private under Captain Richard Quinley's Company, 5th Regiment Indiana Infantry Militia of Harrison County, Indiana.

Around 1820 Martin & Elizabeth moved from Floyd County to Lawrence County, Indiana.

Martin was killed by a falling tree at William Pedigo's farm in Lawrence County, Indiana about 1833. Through research I have found documentation stating Martin is buried on the Pedigo farm in Perry Twp., Lawrence County, Indiana. The place of burial is now a pasture & there is no headstone or marking for him.
