He attended Greensboro High School and the University of North Carolina. He also attended Vanderbuilt university where he studied ministry. He lived for about 25 years in Cuba where he worked as a missionary.
He was survived by his wife, ELizabeth Hanly, three daughters, Mrs. Fount RIchardson and Miss Edwina Porter, both of Fayetteville, Ark., and Mrs. RObert Adams, Bath, N. Y. ; two brothers, James M. Porter, New Orleans, L.A. and CHarles A. Porter, Tucson, Az, and four sisters, Miss Ann G. Porter, San Francisco, Ca., Mrs. Nellie Porter, Tucson, Az, and Mrs. Nina Porter Fatjo and Mrs Mary Porter Baker, both of Barranquilla, Colombia, South America.
