The funeral service of Mr. J. A POrter, who died in Health, Ark., on Monday, March 6, and who was a former resident of Greensboro, was held yesterday afternoon from the residence of Mr. L. L. CLegg, on North Cedar street, and interment was made in Green Hill Cemetery. The funeral services were condicted by Rev. Dr. S. B. Turrentine assitsted by Rev. Dr. Charles W. Byrd and Rev. Z. E. Barnhardt.
The deceased was a conderate veteran and was 69 years old. He was for many years a resident of this city, where he was known to a large number of people, who will hear of his death with much regret. He is survived by: Miss Carrie Porter and Miss Vick Porter, of Hillsboro; and seven children: Charles A. Porter, of Macon, Ga; R. E. Porter, of Constancia, Cuba; Miss Annie Porter of New York; Mrs. H. W. Baker, of Bogato, Columbus, S. A.; J. M. Porter, of Buchanan, Va., Mrs. A. E. Patio, of Jarales, N.M.; and Miss Nellie F. Porter, of Nashville, Tn. H. A. Latane, vice president of the Virginia Can Company, Buchanan, Va, accompanied J. M. Porter here to attend the funeral servces.
