Son of James Francis Pearce & Martha Ann Rebecca Jackson

Mr. James R. Pearce, of this city, died last evening at 6 o'clock at the Broad Oaks Sanitarium in Morganton, where he had been for several weeks for treatment.
Squire Pearce had been in failing health for two or three years, but the news of his death came as a surprise as it was not known generally that his consition was critical.
The deceased who was in his seventieth year, is survived by his widow and the following children: Claude Pearce, of Foster, Oklahoma; R. E., S. W., James F., Aurthur B., G. T. and J. W. Pearce and Mrs. John B. Clendenin, of Greensboro. He also leaves several brothers and sisters as follows; O. F. and W. H. Pearce and Mrs. T. H. Mayo, of Greensboro; Edward and Frank Pearce of Oklahoma, and Mrs. F. H. Wood of Trinity.
The deceased was a brave Confederate soldier, a member of Guilford Grays, 27th Regiment and fought throughout the civil war. For several years he was a justice of the peace and until his health broke down he was a sucessful auctioneer. He was a member of West Market street Methodist Church.
The remains were brought here on train No. 36 today at 1:30 o'clock and the funeral will be held from the late residence, 516 Fifth ave., tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, the interment following in Green Hill Cemetery. Rev. E. K. McLarty will conduct the services.
