Jens Christiansen, 81, died at 1:00 o'clock Wednesday morning in an Iowa City hospital where he had been a patient the past ten days. He had been in ill health for some time.

Plans for the funeral services were incomplete at the time of going to press but the time is tentatively set for Saturday afternoon in the local Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. J.R. Kirby, officiating. Mr. Christiansen is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons. A complete obituary will appear next week.

Last Rites Held Saturday Here for Jens Christiansen

Last rites were held Saturday afternoon in the Methodist church for Jens Christiansen whose death was mentioned in last week's issue. Rev. J.R. Kirby, pastor of the church, officiated. Casket bearers were: Geo. Forbes, Clifford Slayton, Harry Green, John Mordan, S. Madsen and E.A. Matthieson. Burial was in Summit Hill Cemetery.

Jens Lauritzen Christiansen, son of Lauritz and Karen Marie Christiansen, was born May 29, 1867 at Filholm, Denmark. He came to Wayne, Nebr., in the fall of 1884. He was united in marriage with Miss Rickey Nelson and to this union three children were born, all of whom survive. His wife died in 1895.

In 1900 he came to Pocahontas county when the rail road was being built through Pocahontas. On Oct. 28, 1902 he was united in marriage with Miss Edith Kerr and they established their home on a farm near Ware. They continued to farm near Rolfe and Pocahontas until they retired and moved into town about 16 years ago. They adopted a son, Richard, in 1928. Mr. Christiansen was a member of the Methodist church of Pocahontas.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Pete of Minneapolis and Richard of this place and two daughters, Mrs. Laura Hohweiler of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Mrs. Pyrdith Hammond of Springdale, Ark., three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Soren of Graettinger and Ed of Rolfe and one sister, Kristen who resides in Denmark.

Christiansen of Graettinger; Mr. and Mrs. Orris Gadd of Sibley; and Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Wattonville of Jolley; with a host of relatives and friends from Rolfe and Gilmore City.
