John Patrick Lyons is buried here in the same unmarked grave as his first wife, Nellie Hayward Lyons. She died in the 1920 flu epidemic. His second wife, Margaret Hayward Lyons, Nellie's sister, is buried next to them.

He had two sons:

* George Hayward Lyons 1901-1970, one son
* John Francis Lyons 1909-1969, no children

His parents were Irish immigrants and arrived in the 1860s. They were first in Jersey City, NJ and then moved to Braceville, Ohio where he was born and raised. About 1898, the family moved back to Jersey City. The men in his family either worked for the railroad or were gangsters. He and his father worked for the railroad.

He served in the Spanish American War.

He met and married his first wife in Jersey City, NJ. He and Nellie Hayward were married at St. Peter's on 20 Jan 1901. They soon moved to Chicago where his first son was born in September 1901 and remained there for the rest of their lives. For many years, he lived on Woodlawn Avenue.

According to the 1930 Census, he was a machinist.
