Born December 30, 1915, in Haw Creek, Indiana, Robert Jarrett "Bump" Bumpas was the son of Albert Frank and Myra Belle (Jarrett) Bumpas. On September 19, 1937, he married Ruth Erma Richardson of Morgan County, Indiana. They had one son, Rox Freeman Bumpas of Mooresville, and one daughter, Sharon Darlene Schmidt of Pengilly, Minnesota. Bump and Ruth were divorced in 1960. Bump subsequently remarried. He died on January 14, 1994. He is survived by his wife Lee, his son Rox, his daughter Sharon, five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister AnnaBelle Cavanaugh.
