Cecelia L. Duran, 83, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 24, 2013. She was born in Seligman, Arizona to Antonio and Gregoria Lopez, who preceded her in death.

Cecelia graduated from Barstow High School in 1947, and began working as a secretary at the school shortly thereafter. In 1961 she became the first secretary to the President of Barstow College, and retained that position until her retirement in 1988.

She excelled at typing, shorthand, filing and all office administrative skills. She was highly thought of; she was awarded an honorary A.A. Degree in 1988 when she retired. Cecelia also served several years on the Barstow Hospital Board and was instrumental in the establishment of the new dialysis center in Barstow.

An avid reader, also enjoyed watching Novellas on television, was an active sports fan, especially enjoying football and her beloved Rams. She was a devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church throughout her life.

Her family has always been the center of her life. She married Manuel Duran on May 28, 1949, and were together for 56 ½ years until he passed away in December of 2005.

She is survived by one sister Henriqueta of Seligman, three daughters, Kathy Swagger and husband Mark of Helendale, Mary Mitchell and husband Bruce of Barstow, Vickie Farlow and husband Blaine of Rancho Cucamonga, son Mark and wife Darla of Barstow. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Tricia Meath, Tracy Kirkendoll, Laura and Curtis Mitchell, four great-grandchildren, Carissa Kirkendoll, Tyler McWilliams, Jaden Meath and Jonathan Tafoya Jr. Also, two great-great grandchildren, Kyla McWilliams and Adalynn Sorn.

Included in the sorrow of her passing are her extended families, Jonathan Tafoya, Heidi, Michael and Cissie, Curt and Sherry Mitchell, her god-son Michael, Michele and Matthew, Stevie, Sammy, Katie and all of her nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Barstow, with a rosary following at 9:00am. Services will follow at 10:00am with graveside services following at Mountain View Memorial Park, Barstow. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate may do so in Cecelia's name to Barstow Dialysis Center.
