Pedestrian Is Struck On Highway, Killed
Was Walking Near Northeim at 8 in Evening.
Frank Mrotek is County's Second Fatality of Day
MANITOWOC—Death claimed a victim on a Manitowoc County highway for the
second time within 24 hours when Frank Mrotek, 54, of Rt. 1., Ceveland,
was struck and killed by an automobile while walking along the Lakeshore
Road near his home Monday night.

Mrotek was walking on the east side of the highway at a point about 1-1/2
miles south of Northeim when the accident occurred at 8 a.m. The driver,
(private), of Hika, told county traffic police she did not see Mrotek until
he was struck by her northbound car. She said he was walking approximately
three feet from the east edge of the highway and that his dark clothing
made it difficult to see him. She was unable to state in which direction
he was walking.
On Way to Neighbor's
(private) told officers she applied the brakes immediately after striking
the man, whose body was found in the east ditch about 50 to 60 feet north-
east of the point of impact. Death was attributed to a skull fracture
although Coroner Dr. Theodore Teitgen said the victim also suffered a broken
right leg and right shoulder.
Dr. Teirgen said Mrotek was on his way to the home of a neighbor to tell him
of a deer which his brother, Ed, had shot earlier in the day. (private)was
headed for Northeim where she intended to visit friends. She was alone and
estimated her speed at the time of the accident at between 40-45 miles per
hour, according to police.
Dr. Teitgen said that an inquest will be held into the accident.
The right front section of the _______ was damaged when it struck Mrotek.
Funeral Thursday.
Mrotek, who never married, was born May 15, 1902, in the Town of Centerville,
son of the late Stephen and Frances Tomchek Mrotek. His mother died Nov. 1.
He resided with the family on the farm where he was engaged in farming.
Surviving him are three brothers, John of Newton, Edward of Centerville and
Alvin on the home farm; and five sisters, Mrs. John Glomski of Newton, Mrs.
Clara Jost of Hika and the Misses Emily, Regina and Agnes at home.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Leschke-Bergner Funeral
home and at 10 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Northeim. The Rev.
Arthur ____ will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Wednesday where the Rosary
will be recited at __ p.m. Wednesday (some underinking)
