Charles is buried right in the middle of Canova Drive. He was hunting with a friend when his gun discharged and he was accidentally killed. His father buried him right there.
Later in time (1960's), this burial spot became a problem for developers. To avoid the legal difficulties in moving the grave, the developers made the road go around it.

Charles' father Douglas Dummett was in the sugar business, and the second Seminole War, later he was a Peace Justice and the first Collector of Customs for the Port of New Smyrna.

Read the full story in picture of the road side marker that can be found in New Smryna Beach.

The spelling of the family surname also comes into question. Some people believe it to be Dummitt. Regardless of the spelling, Charlie still is in the middle of the road.
