He joined the Army in 1941 and became a medic, he was sent to Hawaii where he met and married Daisy Josephine Villanueva On March 11, 1944 in Hilo, Hawaii. After being discharged from the service they made their home north of Hunnewell, MO. They did for a very short time move to Kentucky with their then three children, but returned to Hunnewell and had two more children. To their union were born five children; John Arthur III, Charles Elmer, Albert Ray, Jerry Lee and Mary Josephene. 10 grandchildren: Lisa Marie, Tracy Lynn, John Arthur Clarkson IV, Charles Elmer Jr., Albert Jr., Kitsey Marie, Tammy Marlene, Michael, Chad and Tiffany.

He loved spending time with his family and he loved hunting, fishing and loved to play croquet and I don't want to forget his dog Zippo.
