FARM RESIDENT IS HEAT VICTIM

Mrs. Christopher Becker, 76, Campbellsport, Expires at home

Mrs. Christopher Becker, 76, was stricken by the heat at 5 p.m. and died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at her home three miles south of Campbellsport.

She was born in the Town of Ashford Sept 20, 1860; Gertrude Jaeger was married to Christopher Becker July 9, 1878. Mr. Becker died 10(?) years ago.

Surviving relatives include the following children: Christopher, Peter and Barthol Becker, Mrs. Louis Sabish, Mrs. Herman Sabish and Mrs. John McCarty of Campbellsport, Mrs. Joseph Karl of St. Bridget and Mrs. Kilian Flasch of West Bend. St. Matthews's church. The Rev. A. Biwer will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

MRS. CHRIST. BECKER STRICKEN BY HEAT
Among those whose death was hastened by the recent prolonged heat, was that of a pioneer farm resident. Mrs. Christopher Becker aged 77, who was stricken by the heat and a heart attack at 5 p.m. and died at 8:30 p.m. last Thursday at her home in the town of Auburn on the date of her 58th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Becker, nee Gertrude Jaeger, was born in the town of Ashford on September 20, 1859, and was married to Christopher Becker on July 9, 1878. Her husband preceded her in death 19 years ago.

Eight children survive their mother, namely: Christopher, Peter and Barthol Becker, Mrs. Louis Sabish, Mrs. Herman Sabish Sr., and Mrs. John McCarty of Campbellsport; Mrs. Joseph Karl of St. Bridget's and Mrs. Kilian Flasch of West Bend. One child, Frank Becker, preceded her in death on March 5th 1928. Also surviving are 37 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for the deceased were held Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at St. Matthew's Cath. Church, Campbellsport. The Rev. A. Biwer officiated at the requiem high mass and burial was made in the church cemetery.
Six grandchildren acted as pall bearers: Alex Becker, Herman Sabish Jr., Joe Karl Jr., Woodrow Flasch, Tom McCarty and Alois Sabish. Wayland

Rauch and daughter of Oshkosh, the Misses Helen and Mary Schoofs, Mr. and Mrs. Christ Schoofs and son, Mr. and Mrs. John Schoofs, Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Hron, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schultz, and John Keichler of Kewaskum; Mr. and Mrs. John Horning of Beechwood, Mrs. John Firks of New Fane, and also many relatives and friends from the surrounding community.

Gertrude Jaeger was born on Sept 20 1859,and was raised on her father's farm in Ashford, Wis. She was delivered by her Brother-in-law's sister, Mrs. Anna Cecelia (Hall) Dreikosen.

She married Christopher Becker at St. Martin's Catholic Church of Ashford, Wis on July 9, 1878, she only being 17 years old. He was a native of Auburn township. After their marriage they lived on the Becker homestead near Elmore, Wis.

During the course of their married life, they moved to Campbellsport, Wis. where Mr. Becker was a shrewd and prominent stock dealer throughout the area, which includes Kewaskum. He was a member of many societies throughout the area. He died in Campbellsport, Wis. on Mar. 5, 1928.

She remained in Campbellsport, Wis. until her death on July 9, 1936 at age 76. She died due to the extreme heat that hit the area. This was also the time Fond du Lac County was celebrating its centennial. The temperatures were very hot, the coolest it got for a 10 day period was 102 degrees. Over a hundred people in Fond du Lac County, died during this heat wave.

She was laid to rest in Union Cemetery, Campbellsport, Wis. She was laid next to her Husband. They were members of St. Matthew's Catholic Church of Campbellsport.

She is the only child of Bartholomaus Jaeger that was not buried at Ashford, Wis.

Mrs. Becker was an avid gardener. She had many, many flowers growing around her home, and also many in her home. She also raised three more children, than her own. Her husband's sister was married to a Drexel and she died, and Mrs. Becker raised her three children on the farm.

The Becker home was also one of the most modern at the time, At the time of her death she had a furnace system installed, and even plumbing along with hot and cold water, which in 1936 were very modern conveniences.
