Carl joined the US Navy at the age of 17 and served honorably during WWII in North Africa and Okinawa. He reenlisted at the end of the war into the US Army.
He enjoyed gardening, carpentry and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Carl leaves to cherish his memory his children, Henry Benfield, daughter, Linda Williams Haynes (husband, Don), grandchildren, Rebecca Williams and Carl Travis Benfield, great-grandchildren, Carl Travis Benfield II and Hunter Gage Benfield, and special nephew, Doyle (wife, Ada) Benfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delza E. Benfield, parents, Harve and Lilly (Stapleton) Benfield, 9 brothers and 7 sisters.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all that loved him.
Services will be held at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, VA with burial at Millers Chapel Cemetery at a later date.
