Katie Josephine Bakotich-Wells
Katie Josephine Bakotich-Wells, 93, a longtime resident of the Harbor area, died Saturday
morning, November 14, 2009, at her daughter's home in Hoquiam.
Katie was born on O ctober 4, 1916 in Aberdeen to Pasco and Barbara (Millan) Bakotich. She
grew up in Aberdeen and attended Aberdeen schools.
In 1940, Katie married Carl Wojs in Montesano. He died in 1964.
Katie moved to Ridgefield, Wash. in 1965 and married Ernest Wells in 1966. They returned to
the Harbor in 1995, where Ernest died in 1997.
Katie worked in the area canneries, canning crab and tuna. She also worked for E.C. Miller as a
plater.
She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Aberdeen, St. Catherine's Guild, VFW
Auxiliary and the Croatian Lodge.
Katie loved to read and do word search puzzles, playing cards, clam digging and dancing. She
liked to be with family and was very active at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Katie is survived by two daughters, Barbara Hall of Hoquiam and Arlene and husband Jerry
Edwards of Everett; two stepsons, David Wells of Woodland, Wash. and Lee and wife Geri Wells
of Ridgefield, Wash.; a brother, Peter and wife Audrey Bakotich of Aberdeen; and numerous
grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Katie was preceded in death by a son Carl Wojs Jr. in
1946; three brothers, Steve, Richard and Pasco Bakotich Jr.; and two sisters, Mary Mistich and
Florida White.
There will be a time of visitation and viewing from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, November
18th, at Fern Hill Funeral Home, followed by a funeral at Noon Thursday, November 19, 2009
at Fern Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery.
