Mary Lynn Richardson Clinger died on February 21, 2013 in her home in Austin, TX. She had pancreatic cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents - Lerah and Lamar Richardson; daughter-in-law, Susan Clinger and sister-in-law, Nancy Richardson.
She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Charles E. Clinger; their 4 children - Son, Brian E. Clinger of Dale, TX., Daughter, Marsha L. Roose and husband of Cedar Creek, TX., Daughter, Barbara G. Hinesley and husband Toby of Florence, TX. and Son, Leslie C. Clinger and wife Jane of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren - Marianne Alves, Don Charles Roose III, Brandon Clinger, Logan Clinger, Justin Clinger, Jordan Clinger, Joshua Clinger, Lauren Clinger Manly, Will Clinger, Ben Clinger, Melissa Clinger and Joel Clinger.
In addition, she has 7 great-grandchildren - Kalea Clinger, Marlee Alves, Avery Clinger, Rayjen Clinger, Malaya Clinger, Reece Clinger and Aerith Clinger. She is survived by her brother, Bob Richardson and sister-in-law, Margie Clinger Ferris, as well as nieces, nephews, an uncle in his late 80s, two aunts over 100 years old and many cousins in Texas and North Carolina.
Mary Lynn was born on 6 Jan 1933 in St. David's Hospital in Austin, TX. Most of early life was growing up on Alameda Dr. in South Austin. On 6 April 1947 she was baptized at South Austin Christian Church. She was one of the first graduates of Travis Heights Elem. School, attended Fulmore Jr. High, Alan Jr. High and graduate from Austin High School in 1950. She attended University of Texas at Austin for 2 years majoring in Elementary Education. On 21 June 1952, she was married to the young man who lived across the street from her ( Charles E. Clinger) by Rev. Sidney Hawkins at South Austin Christian Church. She worked for the Texas Department of Transportation in 1953-54 while Charles was in Korea. Mary Lynn and Charles lived in South Austin all of their lives.
In High School she was a member of the National Honor Society, Red Jackets, Bridge Club, on the newspaper staff, received an American Legion Award and participated in the Rainbow Girls. After marriage, her volunteering included 33 years with the youth and women's programs at South Austin Christian Church; 16 years in the PTA, being awarded the PTA- Texas Life Membership for her efforts; a leader in Cub, Brownie and Girl Scouts. In her late years, she volunteered for Project Feeder Watch for Cornell Lab of Ornithology by observing and recording data on birds in her area.
Her hobbies included reading fiction and spiritual poems, studying birds and animals, archeology, geology, painting and crafts. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mary Lynn enjoyed traveling with Charles on his may professional trips. Some of her favorite's places were Honolulu, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Washington D. C., Toronto and Winnipeg, Canada.
Mary Lynn was one of those unique, beautiful ladies you rarely meet. She was a quiet woman with deep commitments to God, her family, youth, animals and lost souls.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue. Funeral Service 10:30 am on Saturday, March 2, 2013 Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
A place that held special meaning to her is Bastrop State Park. Mary Lynn and Charles honeymooned there in 1952, enjoyed numerous family outings and reunions and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary at the Bastrop State Park Refectory in June 2012. In lieu of flowers, you may honor the memory of Mary Lynn by donating to the Bastrop Recovery Fund in which donations go directly toward the recovery efforts at Bastrop State Park from the 2011 wildfire.
