Boyd was early for a going away party and decided to go for a swim and apparently hit his head when he dove into the water. Friends found him unresponsive and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Boyd had such a bright future as he planned to enter the ministry after studying at Abilene Christian. He was a song leader and Bible class teacher at the young age of twenty.
