Mrs. Roberts Braswell Ray, 101, died Friday, December 22, 2000. She was a resident of Glenstone Health Care Nursing Home and Boone, North Carolina.

She was the daughter so Robert and Emma Harris Braswell, born September 24, 1899, in Montezuma, Avery County, North Carolina.

Mrs. Ray attended schools in the Avery County area, Athens, Tennessee and Berea College, Kentucky. She married Edward Larkin Ray on October 24, 1919 and the couple lived in Montezuma, Newland, Lillington, North Carolina and Winter Haven, Florida.

She was affectionately known as "Ms. Bobbie" and was respected for her expertise in homemaking, cake decorating and various advanced crafts. She was active in the Garden Club of Boone, and was a clerical aide in the Boone Merchants Association/Chamber of Commerce with her uncle, Stanley A. Harris Sr. Mrs. ray was an active member in the Presbyterian Church in Boone and Newland.

Survivors include one son, one daughter, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Larkin Ray, affectionately known during the 60's as the "Flower Man" on the ASU campus.

Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, January 4, 2001 an 2 p.m. at the Newland Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Monty Burnham officiating.

A private burial service will be held at the gravesite at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens in Boone.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Newland is in charge of the arrangements.
