Esther C. (Murray) Buchanan, 96, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at her residence in York. She was the wife of the late Samuel W. Buchanan who departed March 1968. Esther was the second daughter of Sarah (Dorsey) and Walter Murray, born on August 22, 1916, in Slate Hill, Md. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura B. Randolph; brothers, Gilbert and Earl Murray; and sisters, Ruth Ann Bailey, Dorothy Stewart, and Etta May Scott. Her life was her three daughters and grandchildren plus she loved to read. Esther is survived by her daughters, Marguerite Shelley and Sarah Thompson both of York, 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 225 E. Market St., York, PA 17401. Final services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 225 E. Market St., in York, with a visitation from 1:30 to 2 p.m. The Reverend Dr. John Morgan will conduct the services. Interment will follow in Fawn Grove Cemetery in New Park.
