Ethel J. Horton, 87, of Falconer was surrounded by her family, as she went home to be with the Lord Tuesday (Oct. 2, 2012), in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
An area resident most of her life, she was born Jan. 30, 1925, in Johnson City, Tenn., the daughter of the late James and Annie Pritchett Perkey.
Prior to retirement, Ethel had been employed by Falconer Plate Glass.
She was a member of the Falconer First United Methodist Church. Ethel enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved reading scripture from her Bible, putting puzzles together, her collection of porcelain dolls, flowers and gardening and her dogs: Ginger and Daisy.
Surviving are five daughters: Elizabeth "Liz" (Jon) Walters of Kennedy, Linda (Bob) Downey of Jamestown, Patricia "Trish" (Denny) Egroff of Jamestown, Yvette (Chip) Teeter of Randolph, and Yvonne (Bob) Caldwell of Falconer; two sons: Rick Horton and Robert Horton, both of Falconer; 14 grandchildren: Jon Walters, David Walters, Breck Downey, Denton Egroff Jr., Krista Hines, Beth Knowlton, John Knowlton, Amy Knowlton, Nick Caldwell, Shawn Caldwell, Steven Rice, Cassaundra Horton, Tanner Horton, Emily Horton; 7 great-,grandchildren: Ryan Walters, Curtis and Alex Downey, Zackery and Paige Egroff, Elyse and Xavier Hines; and a brother George Perkey of Johnson City, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George P. Horton, whom she married April 18, 1947, in Tazwell, Va., and who died April 15, 1996; three brothers: Henry, Paul and Earl Perkey.
